CD info

I wrote this information in the CD:

- the html folder with all the files that can be looked at locally. (One thing you can't see locally is the php navigation menu because it does not display correctly, but when it is published, you can see it)
- jpeg screenshot images of the main pages
- a link to the running prototype on a server
- a site map of the site
- the site design file of 3 of the pages in Photoshop
- and my contact information

Last class

I loved the last class and the presentation. It was not as nerve-wracking as I thought it would be. I loved the free conversation-like atmosphere and comment structure, that was very encouraging.

At the end of the semester I can honestly say that this was a very good learning experience for me. I learned a lot, discovered new things and got the opportunity to improve a lot of the aspects I found needed improvement. I love my result and am really excited about the solutions of my classmates, which all turned out to be really great.

Class on 11.20

I loved the class. The feedback on presentation and design separately is definitely a good idea.
And I think was very helpful for everyone.

Updates

During the break I worked on some little things to improve the overall functionality of the page.

I took off the lonely volunteer at the Team up page and shifted the groups to reflect their association to one another.
The group titles now are bold and "About the group" got shortened to be only "About"

After many tries at making the explanation pop up windows work properly, I finally have them at a reasonably good shape. This method originally for my purposes has a few bad functionalities, that I needed to address.

Lynda Flash

Finished watching Flash today. I liked all the things that were addressed, but at the end I felt like there is still a LOT, that was being left out. The presenter was not as good as the 2 for Dreamweaver.
After watching the tutorials I discovered all the drawing and design capabilities that Flash offers. Action Script however still seems a bit complicated.
Sometimes it felt like the presenter was not prepared to do the videos and was demonstrating the same thing for a second time just because he felt like doing it.

Class on 11.13

A very exciting class! The comments helped a lot.
Everyone is putting things together and I think it will be great to see how things work live.

Html

The LINK is still the same.
The page (on my computer) is displayed better in Firefox than Safari.

I worked on the details of my page and expanded it to show how you could team up with other groups.
Right now in the Team Up page you can pick:
- A group with a leader
- A group to lead
- A family with kids to share knowledge with

The gallery page is expanded a bit - it now has 2 pages of image groups.
The link buttons are more visible and in a different shape.
And the group description buttons are different.

Although, if the team up description windows (the little pop up windows)
do not seem to have changed, the browser cache needs to be cleaned:
(Safari - Empty cache; Firefox - Preferences - Privacy - Clear Now button)

Page in html

This is the link to my demo html site in progress.
Since we are not really making the whole thing, some parts work and some don't.

"Team up" works in 3 levels. All the links to outside pages work.
"Photo gallery" works and there is one information page under the "More info" navigation right now.

Class on 11.06

The class was fun. Everything is finally coming together and we are in the final stages of the project. Everyones web pages are starting to look really good. All we have to worry about now is the technical part and presentation.

Dreamweaver CS3

I found the tutorials very useful and was really glad it talked about the latest version-CS3 (well almost). Great instructions and an interesting teacher. Will help me a lot in making this web page.

Class on 10.30

It was a good class. Lots of discussion time for everyone.

Another go at Visualization

This is another try at visualizing the Concept design for the site,
taking wireframes into consideration.

Wireframes

I made 2 wireframes. First is for the "Home" page and second is for a second level page to see how the layout might change and how the navigation might work.

Site map

Lynda CSS

I finished watching the css tutorials and found them to be very, very helpful. They talk about all the things I wanted to know, but never had time to find out. I am really glad we had to watch this.

Class on 10.16

After discussing our concepts in class, I have a better understanding of where I might go with the design. I think that site maps and wireframes will really help to plan the site out in detail.

The class ended pretty fast, I wanted a bit more one on one feedback.

Class on 10.09

I liked the class a lot especially the part where we could get one on one feedback. That helped immensely. I think everyone is doing good on their projects and we are making progress.

Concept Design

Feelings: belonging, learning, joy

Experience: feel joy about helping keep the environment clean. Have a good time picking up trash. Get-together. Feel like a part of a like-minded community. Socialize.

Intro to my audience:

California Coastal Cleanup Community (4C's) site is dedicated to environment lovers to exchange ideas, socialise or get in-depth information about marine wildlife and environment issues. Whether you are a nature activist from way back, new to the table, are looking for educational resources, or just browsing, 4C’s has something for you. Be sure to check out: the 4C’s Forum for various topics on coastal issues, events or post questions and join discussions. The 4C’s Photos is where we showcase the 4C’s culture from all over California. And our 4C’s Lifestyle Blog is where you will find the latest environmental news, issues and ideas from our community.

Mood board 2

I changed around quite a lot of things.
Took out the grass and made it more about the beach.

Contact people

I finally got a response back from by contact person with the help of George. (Hurrah!!!)
I found out that 1) next years event is planned to be very much like the one this year and no major changes are going to be implemented. 2) They want to encourage people to clean up around their neighborhoods too. They want the effort not to be just once a year, but everyday - along the coastlines & waterways, but also in the neighborhoods. 3) They think that what should be emphasized is the information about the impact of trash on the health of our waterways, coastlines, oceans and our communities.
4) they have a quote: "We save what we love, we love what we understand, we understand what we are taught." - Baba Diome, Senegalese Naturalist

Class 10.02

I think going over the personas and experience maps really helped. I am still a bit unsure about my map though I wish I could read about the subject more. I liked the discussions and they helped me focus in on the important things more.
After hearing references to the book "Tipping Point" and learning about connectors, mavers and salesmen, I was interested to find out more so I listened to the book in audio format. I think it is a really really really useful book and knowing about what it takes to create and stop "epidemics" will help me a lot.

Mood board

The perception and mood I want to create is that of belonging and teaching/learning something.
